Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all my lovely blog followers! I started off the new year with a horrible cold so my blog posts haven't exactly gone to plan. I'm looking forward to what's to come for my blog and YouTube channel this year though (yes i'm coming back!).
We've had one of the best Christmas's yet in our new home, as well as it being mine and Oliver's first Christmas together, so it was a special one and so nice to get all the family together. As usual we started off the day with cocktails - our drink of choice this year being a ginger champagne cocktail - SOO good (but so easy to drink - I saw my dad drunk for the first time in my life.)
Me and my mum love a thrifty Christmas - from our vintage baubles picked up from car boot sales, to bargain decorations she found in the sales last January, and even a pair of vintage ice skates I scored in a charity shop for just £3. We haven't splashed out on anything pictured which means you can definitely decorate your house on a budget!
Clock - Sainsburys sale, £2.49 / Vintage ladder - from a skip! / Mince Pie cushion - Asda, £5
Draught excluder - Asda, £5
Ice skates - Charity shop, £3
Merry Christmas garland - Sainsburys, £5
My mum put together this amazing little festive box from a vintage crate bought on eBay, logs my dad chopped in the garden, odd plants and beads that we had laying around. Doesn't it look fab?
My advent calender below has been in the family since I was born and I absolutely love getting it out every year. My mum fills it with yummy sweets and chocolate of our own choice, which means no cheapy horrible chocolate from those supermarket advent calendars. She also randomly pops in scratch cards and £1 coins here and there which is a lovely surprise. I won £40 this year on one scratch card - woohoo!
I absolutely LOOOOVE this Christmas pin up print which I have in the form of a shower curtain and bedding. George Home at Asda have had an absolutely amazing festive collection this year, and everything is SO CHEAP!
Another drink I have discovered this year which I love is Oddka's Twisted Melon vodka, which again makes such a drinkable drink (I'm one of those people who doesn't particularly like the taste of alcohol but this is so tasty). Anything that can make vodka drinkable is good in my books. A must try!
We also became a bit obsessed with Nigella Lawson's seasonally spiced nuts - another recipe you must try. I'm not a huge nut fan but toasted with rosemary and spices and served warm makes them so delicious!
As always, every year we don't eat a big breakfast but instead make canapés - a little more fancy (and so Instagrammable) which is a lovely appetiser and leaves just enough room for my mums amazing Christmas dinners. This year we made brie and cranberry pastry puffs, figs and goats cheese wrapped in prosciutto, beef with horseradish and salmon, and cream cheese and chive swirls. All made from scratch of course!

I love what you've done- sometimes I think Christmas becomes overwhelmed by money and people forget the meaning of sentiment and family. The fact you put some of these things together with your parents and went shopping with your mum to a boot sale to get the decorations really reinforces what Xmas is about!
